The ‘Paws on the Wall’ Challenge: How Did Baby Cat Do? (With Video)

Nicole and Baby Cat attempting the Paws on the Wall challenge

Hi, I’m Nicole! Read my introduction to learn more about me and my distinguished Burmese, Mr. Baby Cat.

I saw a trend on Instagram recently where pet parents moved their cat(s) toward the wall to see if they would put their paws out to prevent themselves from hitting the wall; some even claimed it was a test to see if your cat had survival instincts or if your cat was blind.

I don’t know what the science is, but I thought it was a funny experiment, so we decided to try it with Baby Cat.

Now, I need to warn you, there is a lot of background noise in the video below…our dog Mac wasn’t a fan of being left out of the filming and he made it known. Our daughter even got involved in trying to sing over my speaking, it was a bit of a zoo behind the scenes. Our anxious girl Rosa was hiding to the side all quiet, so she would be invited back to set if we decided to film another video.

I thought about editing all of the bloopers out, but it just didn’t have the same vibes, so you can all hear and experience the beautiful madness for a minute and a half. Before you watch, what do you think Baby Cat did? Did he put his paws out to stop the door?

So, the little guy did an emergency roly-poly, a tuck and slide to get out of the situation, but no forward paws would be engaged in any way, shape, or form. Maybe I was holding him in a way that would not anatomically allow him to brace himself, or maybe he just trusts me so much that he knew I wouldn’t ram him into the wall, and did the little tuck and slide for the performance. He does love to do front roly polys if we lift him off the ground and walk a step forward (video for another day). He might be a little blind, and his survival skills have been out the door for years, but I think he just loves to get a good laugh out of us. I hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did filming it.

Have you tried this with your kitty? We definitely recommend it.
