elevated cat bowl

Feeding time is probably your cat’s favorite part of the day. Cats are much pickier about their food and the container used to serve it than dogs, but you have several options available online. Bowls come in all shapes, sizes, and prices, but you’ll spend hours looking at numerous products. We prefer to use elevated cat bowls for our furry friends, and we researched several brands and designs to make your search a bit less taxing on your nerves. We’ve included product reviews and a handy guide for the best tilted cat bowls in this year.

  • The 8 Best Raised Cat Bowls

    1. Neater Pets Neater Feeder Deluxe Elevated & Mess-Proof Bowls – Best Overall

Neater Pets Neater Feeder Deluxe Elevated & Mess-Proof Dog Bowls
    Weight:3.65 pounds
    Color:Bronze

The Neater Pets Neater Feeder is our winner for the best overall cat bowl. It features a durable, hard plastic raised platform with two stainless steel bowls that are dishwasher safe. The 1.5-ounce bowl is for food, and the 2.2-ounce bowl is for water. The platform not only raises the bowls for comfortable feeding, but it also serves as a collection basin for spilled food and water. If you have a messy cat that usually covers your floor with water after a drink, the Neater Feeder will keep your floors clean and dry. The product is available in three sizes, but we included the smallest size because it’s more suited for cats and small dogs.

The skid-proof legs minimize spills, and the raised walls prevent water from splashing over the side. The bottom portion of the platform catches water, and it’s simple to remove and dump. The only downside to the Neater Feeder is the high price. It’s not close to the most expensive bowls on the market, but it’s more costly than the average bowl.

    Pros

    • Solid construction
    • Non-slip base
    • Dishwasher safe rust-proof bowls

    Cons

    • Expensive

    2. Necoichi Ceramic Elevated Cat Water Bowl – Best Value

Necoichi Ceramic Elevated Cat Water Bowl, White Paw Print
    Weight:15.14 ounces
    Color:White/black graphics

Our favorite product in the best bowl for the money category is the Necoichi Ceramic Elevated Cat Water Bowl. Compared to the competition, it’s one of the most attractive bowls with a simple design. The raised bowl is positioned at the ideal height for your cat to take a drink without bending down too far. It has handy measuring lines painted on the interior portion of the bowl to help with portion control and determining how much water your cat has had each day.

It has a thick inner lip to minimize splashing, and it’s made from FDA-approved non-absorbent ceramic. It’s dishwasher and microwave-safe, but you’re unlikely to use it in the microwave unless your feline prefers heated water. Although it’s an effective product, the Neoichi is made from ceramic that could chip or break.

    Pros

    • Elevated to an ideal height
    • Dishwasher safe
    • Measuring lines for portion control

    Cons

    • Ceramic might chip or break

    3. Pawfect Pets Premium Elevated Dog & Cat Diner – Premium Choice

Pawfect Pets Premium Elevated Dog & Cat Diner
    Weight:3 pounds
    Color:Bamboo

Our premium pick is the Pawfect Pets Premium Elevated Dog and Cat Diner. It has an attractive bamboo base that elevates the stainless-steel bowls and keeps your cat from straining its neck while feeding. The bowls are dishwasher safe, and the platform is simple to clean by hand. Although it’s made of bamboo, the wood is coated to resist water damage and warping. The subtle, natural design is ideal for cat owners who dislike colorful bowls that clash with the kitchen décor.

The platform is sturdy enough to prevent tipping, and the anti-slip legs keep it from ejecting food and water onto the floor. It’s more attractive than many other premium bowls, but some customers had problems with the product arriving damaged in the box.

    Pros

    • Water-resistant bamboo
    • Attractive base
    • Dishwasher-safe bowls

    Cons

    • Some platforms arrive damaged

    4. PetFusion Elevated Dog Bowls – Best for Kittens

    PetFusion Elevated Dog Bowls
    Weight:1.98 pounds
    Color:Silver

Several elevated cat bowls are made for adult cats, and kittens are too small to use them comfortably. That’s not the case with the PetFusion Elevated Dog Bowls. The product is only 4 inches tall; it’s the perfect height for a young kitten. Unlike its competition, it uses anodized aluminum rather than stainless steel for enhanced rust protection. The feet have anti-skid pads to prevent sliding, and the bowls are shallow enough to prevent whisker fatigue.

The non-slip feet are a nice touch, but they may not prevent the platform from sliding if a larger cat tries batting it around. The platform is lighter than similar models, but it’s unlikely to tip over when used by a kitten. The only complaint we have is the high price.

    Pros

    • Ideal height for kittens
    • Rust-proof aluminum construction
    • Shallow bowls prevent whisker fatigue

    Cons

    • Expensive
    • Lightweight

    5. PETKIT CYBERTAIL Elevated Cat Stainless Steel Bowls

PETKIT CYBERTAIL Elevated Dog Cat Stainless Steel Bowls
    Weight:1.54 pounds
    Color:Black

The PETKIT CYBERTAIL Elevated Cat Stainless Steel Bowls features two high-quality stainless steel bowls attached to a raised pedestal. The bowls are dishwasher safe and wide enough to prevent whisker fatigue. The bowls lock into the base, and you can set them at a 15° angle or keep them level. The base has a rubberized bottom to prevent sliding, but it’s not as heavy as similar models. The PETKIT is a stylish product that looks more futuristic than anything else on the market.

The shiny, premium-grade stainless-steel bowls are attractive, but some customers mentioned that the reflective finish scared their cats. One of the product’s nicest features is the ability to set the bowls in different positions, but some customers had problems with the base components arriving damaged on delivery.

    Pros

    • Tilted bowls
    • Prevents whisker fatigue
    • Attractive design

    Cons

    • Lightweight base
    • Damaged base from delivery

    6. Frisco Diamond Dog & Cat Double Bowl Diner

    frisco elevated cat bowl
    Weight:1.54 pounds
    Color:Gray

The Frisco Diamond Dog and Cat Double Bowl Diner features a diamond-shaped iron platform that holds two stainless-steel bowls. The bowls are dishwasher safe, but the iron base must be washed by hand. The legs have skid-free pads that prevent tipping and spilling. Most customers were happy with the bowl, but since the bowl is relatively new, we could not determine how well it performs in the long run.

The primary issue with the Frisco Diamond is the product’s description of the bowls’ volume. Some consumers were upset that the description mentioned 2 cup bowls when there were actually 1 cup bowls. The smaller bowls are fine for most cats, but dog owners claimed that they did not hold enough food or water.

    Pros

    • Affordable
    • Durable base

    Cons

    • New product with few reviews
    • Misleading product description

    7. Frisco Pyramid Elevated Dog & Cat Diner

Frisco Pyramid Elevated Dog & Cat Diner
    Weight:1.08 pounds
    Color:Black

The Frisco Pyramid Elevated Dog and Cat Diner features an iron base and two stainless-steel bowls. The bowls are dishwasher safe, but the platform can only be hand-washed. Unlike the competitors, the base is not fitted with non-skid pads, and the platform design isn’t as stable as some of the similar iron bases. Like our 7th pick, several customers had problems with the misleading description of the bowl’s size. Two cups really mean two 1-cup bowls.

The Pyramid’s biggest problem is the way it’s packaged and taped around the bowls. The packing tape leaves a residue on the bowls that’s difficult to remove. Some pet owners mentioned that the sticky film will not come off in the dishwasher but must be cleaned with a scrub pad.

    Pros

    • Ideal height for elevated eating
    • Affordable

    Cons

    • Misleading bowl size
    • Does not have skid-proof pads
    • Packing tape leaves a sticky residue

    8. Kitty City Cat Bowl

    Kitty City Cat Bowl
    Weight:0.24 pounds
    Color:Gray, white

The Kitty City Cat Bowl is a small PET plastic bowl with an elevated bottom that can be washed in the dishwasher. It includes one bowl for water and one for food. Although we like the size of the bowl and the overall design, the plastic material is concerning if you want to use it for several years. Metal, ceramic, and porcelain are smoother materials that are hard to scratch or damage. The bowl is a popular item that many cat owners love, but we prefer using materials that are long-lasting and safer for your feline. When you use plastic bowls, we suggest handwashing them rather than using the dishwasher.

    Pros

    • Attractive design

    Cons

    • Not long-lasting
    • Plastic can be scratched and hold bacteria

Buyer’s Guide: Picking the Best Raised Cat Bowl

Elevated cat bowls allow your cat to eat and drink in a more natural position, and they’re great for older cats with arthritis or other joint problems. When you’re deciding which bowl is suitable for your cat, you can use these guidelines to make an informed decision.

    Choosing the Right Material

Cat bowls are made from many different materials, but we only reviewed products made with pet-safe components. We recommend avoiding any product that contains chemicals like BPA that can leech out of the fibers into the water or food. Most companies will state that they use chemical-free plastics and metals, but those that do not should be disregarded.

    Plastic

Although plastic is not as expensive as metal or porcelain, it’s not as easy to clean. Some plastic bowls will fade after repeated cleaning from the dishwasher, and the cheaper, lighter products can even start to warp. The high-temperature rinse from the dish machine is too much for some materials, and over time, even durable plastic shows more wear than other materials.

Plastic is more malleable than porcelain, ceramic, or stainless steel, and it’s more vulnerable to damage from biting or scratching. When it’s torn or pitted, bacteria can settle into the crevices and eventually contaminate the food or water. Temporarily using plastic is safe but keep a close eye on the bowl for damage.

    Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is simple to clean by hand or in the dishwasher. It’s one of the most common materials for cat and dog bowls, but some stainless bowls are much better than others. Thinner stainless steel is easier to damage, and some manufacturers use inferior metal that can rust in the dishwasher. However, the products we reviewed with stainless steel seemed durable and did not have complaints about rust or corrosion. Unlike ceramics and stoneware, premium steel will not chip or crack.

    Porcelain and Ceramics

Like stainless steel, porcelain and ceramics are bacteria resistant and simple to clean. Most brands can be washed in the dishwasher without showing signs of wear, and they’re harder to tip over than the previous materials. Although your cat is unlikely to damage a porcelain or ceramic bowl, humans damage them frequently. One drop on a hard surface can cause a chip or crack.

Determining Which Supporting Platform is Best

Most of the bowls we reviewed included a separate platform to raise the bowl to an elevated position, but the Necoichi and Kitty City bowls are one-piece units. The advantage of using a bowl made of a single piece is the ease of cleaning. You can throw them in the dishwasher without worrying about hand-cleaning a separate base. However, the bases tend to raise the bowls higher, and they’re better for older cats with mobility issues. Whether you prefer a separate platform or a single bowl, the product’s weight and center of gravity affect its stability. A hefty base with a low center of gravity is less likely to tip over or make a mess.

    Avoiding Whisker Fatigue

If a bowl is too deep and narrow, your cat’s whiskers can scrape the sides while it eats or drinks. The term whisker fatigue is a little misleading, but it only means that your cat can become over-stimulated and anxious if its whiskers repeatably hit a hard surface. Although it will not damage the whiskers, it can cause your cat to stop eating because of the stress. To avoid this, you can use elevated bowls that are shallow and wide.

    Final Thoughts

We researched several exceptional water bowls, but the Neater Pets Neater Feeder is our top pick. The shallow bowls are the perfect size to reduce whisker fatigue, and the sturdy base doubles as a basin that catches excess food and water. Compared to the other brands, it's more durable and stable. The Necoichi is our best value winner which impressed us with its simple, practical design and handy measuring lines. After reading the reviews and buyer’s guide, we’re confident you’ll find an elevated bowl that your furball will enjoy.
