Figo vs Healthy Paws Pet Insurance Comparison 2026 - Which is Best?

Overall, Figo allows pet owners to have the most customization options, allowing you to build a plan that fits your budget. For example, you can add things like exam coverage for an extra fee. If you don’t want exam coverage, you don’t have to include this coverage option. Both of these plans from Figo and Healthy Paws cost a similar amount, so that shouldn’t be a significant portion of your decision. However, you can play with the fee a little bit more with Figo.

Furthermore, Figo allows you to play with your reimbursement and deductible fees, which can further affect your policy. Healthy Paws does not allow this.

Overall, these plans are fairly similar, but Figo offers better customization options. Let’s take a closer look at which one may be right for you.

Brief Overview of Figo

FIGO Pet Insurance

Pros

  • Accepted by all vets
  • 24/7 chat
  • No maximum enrollment age
  • 30-day money-back guarantee

Cons

  • Limited plans available
  • Exam recommended
  • Exam fees not included
  • Lifetime limit

Figo works with any licensed veterinarian in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico. This is because they work on a reimbursement system. They don’t pay the vet directly. Instead, they reimburse you for your vet costs.

One of their unique features is that they offer 24/7 virtual vet visits for no extra cost. You can contact their customer service team through an array of options, including their online chat. There is also no maximum enrollment age for coverage. Senior pets may be subject to certain restrictions, though, like proof of a recent wellness test. There is also a 30-day money-back guarantee, should you decide that this insurance isn’t for you.

Figo only offers an accident and illness plan. There is no accident-only option or additional wellness option. There is only one plan available, which does reduce your customization options a bit. An enrollment exam is recommended. If your pet hasn’t had an exam in the last 12 months, your pet’s next exam may be used to establish pre-existing conditions. For this reason, we recommend getting an exam right away before any issues pop up.

Exam fees are not included typically with Figo. For that, you need to purchase an additional plan. There is an annual limit as well as a lifetime limit. This varies but usually starts at $100,000.

Brief Overview of Healthy Paws

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance

Pros

  • No annual limit
  • Fast claims process
  • Covered by a global insurance provider

Cons

  • Limited customization
  • Not suitable for senior pets
  • Requires an exam

Healthy Paws lists no annual limit for the benefits your pet can receive. If something serious happens, this means you are completely covered. The claims process is relatively easy and can be done through their free mobile app. They state that most claims are paid within two days. Their policies are underwritten by Chubb, which is a global insurance provider.

Healthy Paws offers a singular policy that covers both accident and illness. Their customization options are limited, so you can’t adjust your premiums by much. They also require an exam for all dogs before they are covered. They severely limit pets after the age of 5 and do not accept pets over 14.

This is a problem if you have an older pet. However, that also means that any problems that pop up will be counted as “pre-existing” by any insurance company you switch to after your pet is 14.

Company Verdict: Which One Has the Edge?

Customer Service 📞

  • Edge: Figo

This was a tricky category. Both companies cover similar things. Figo covers behavioral problems, while Healthy Paws does not. However, Figo also has a lifetime limit, restricting the number of benefits your pet receives.

You can choose for Figo to cover exam fees for a few extra dollars a month. Healthy Paws does not have this option.

What sets Figo over the edge is that it covers senior pets well. Healthy Paws does not; their coverage is minimal as soon as pets reach 5 years old.

Price of Plans 💲

  • Edge: Figo

We ran quite a few options for both companies, varying the location and details of each pet. In the end, Figo and Healthy Paws seemed to be very similar in some situations. However, in others, Healthy Paws was far more expensive. Healthy Paws seems to jump up considerably in some areas, while Figo stays about the same price.

Furthermore, there are reports of Healthy Paws considerably increasing premiums after a few years. In many cases, they seemed to triple! That’s a lot of money and one reason we couldn’t give Healthy Paws the edge in this situation.

Plan Customization 📝

  • Edge:  Figo

Figo gives you many customization options. There are four different annual limits available and a whole host of deductible options. Reimbursement selections vary from 60% to 100%. They are one of the only providers that offer 100% reimbursement. You can likely adjust the plan to fit whatever your budget might be.

Healthy Paws only offers unlimited annual limits. This is great on the outside, but it can cause problems if you’re trying to get your payment down. They also have restrictions on pets over the age of 5 and do not accept pets over 14. Their reimbursements are considerably cut for pets as they age.

For example, a dog 8-14 years can only choose a 50% or 60% reimbursement with Healthy Paws, with a $750 to $1,000 deductible.

Claim Repayment 💵

  • Edge: Neither

It is difficult to determine which company pays more claims. There is no officially kept record by a third party on this topic, so it is difficult to determine which one pays out more than the other. Based on customer reviews, they both seem to be pretty even.

Because there is no apparent difference between them, we didn’t give this section to either insurance company.

What the Users Say

Many customers were happy with Figo. Many of the negative reviews were by those that did not completely understand the plan. For example, there were complaints about pre-existing conditions or injuries within the waiting period, which are excluded from the plan. Some did complain that Figo hiked up the rates after every year. One customer started out paying $350 a year but then was asked to pay $750 the third year. That was without any significant claims.

Many claimed that Figo did pay out the claims. There are few reports of them taking advantage of the pre-existing condition clause to deny payment. Figo seems to pay claims within 7-10 days.

While many people loved Healthy Paws, there were many complaints about them raising rates year after year. Older pets are restricted in their coverage as well, and they do not accept any pets over 14. This is true even if your pet always had Healthy Paws insurance, which can put some owners in a tight place when their pets age.

Healthy paws reviews were consistently below Figo’s. Many people complained about Healthy Paws’ lack of covering exam fees, which can add up quickly.

It seems that many people love Healthy Paws at the beginning. It is easy to fill claims, and their customer service is quite good. However, after a few years, the vast majority of people cancel and go somewhere else.

Based on our research, Figo is the better option over Healthy Paws. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the best insurance out there – period. We still recommend that you shop around and look at some other options. However, if you’re deciding between these two companies, we highly recommend Figo.

There are more customization options to Figo, so you can design a plan that fits into your budget. They also tend to either be cheaper or about the exact cost as Healthy Paws.

Both companies seem to increase premiums after the first year. However, Figo offers more coverage to older dogs and has no maximum age, unlike Healthy Paws. For this reason alone, we highly recommend choosing them.
