115+ Birman Cat Names: Our Top Picks for Your New Kitty

Birman Cat Names

Birman cats are best known for their brightly-colored, blue eyes. They originally came from Burma and are thought to have been “temple cats.” However, this history has never been proven, though it does make a nice story.

Over time, these felines slowly came to Europe and the United States. While they are quite old, they were only introduced to the Western world recently. Therefore, they are still pretty rare felines.

If you’re lucky enough to get your hands on one of these beautiful cats, one of the first things you’ll do is name them. While this may sound easy, many people have a harder time with this than they expect. It’s hard to narrow down all the possibilities to just one name.

Luckily, we’ve provided you with a list of possible names below, which should provide you with some inspiration.

How to Name Your Birman Cat

Birman cats may be uniquely beautiful, but naming your new Birman cat is just like naming any other cat.

Your first step should be to make a list of all the names that you like. You can come up with your own names and use lists like ours for inspiration. Do not write down any name that you might pick. Instead, focus on only your favorites. If you have several members in your household, be sure to involve them in choosing names, too.

Next, you should cross out any names that you aren’t in love with. Preferably, you should have five names or less on your list. If you have more, narrow it down as best you can. Sometimes, asking for a second opinion can be helpful at this stage if you really can’t narrow it down anymore.

Now that you have your shortened list try out the names over a few days. Your cat will take several weeks to learn their new name, so this process won’t confuse them. Sometimes, there may be a name that you really like, but it may just not fit your cat for one reason or another. This period also allows you to get to know your cat a bit better, which should allow you to select a better-fitting name.

If you have younger children in your household, be sure that they can pronounce the name. Otherwise, they may end up “renaming” your cat to something they can pronounce.
