If you’ve got a Siamese cat, you know how special they are. People have been celebrating this unique breed for hundreds of years—and today, National Siamese Cat Day follows the tradition. This fun holiday takes place on April 6th, when cat lovers across the country come together to celebrate their blue-eyed feline friends.
The 5 Ways to Celebrate Siamese Cats
1. Attend or Organize a Local Event
Siamese cat appreciation events are held all over the country, but if there isn’t one near you, consider hosting your own! You can have delicious treats, fun games, and fundraisers for a local shelter.

2. Volunteer at a Cat Rescue
Rescues and animal shelters run on volunteer work, and spending a few hours helping out can make a big difference. Contact your local rescue in advance to find out what their volunteer needs and policies are.
3. Adopt, Don’t Shop!
If you’ve been thinking about getting a new cat, show your appreciation to the unwanted by adopting. Adopting helps save abandoned cats and supports animal shelter systems.

4. Show Your Siamese It’s Loved
Do you already have a Siamese cat? Spend the day spoiling it with a special treat, a new toy, and some one-on-one playtime. There’s no better way to celebrate than treating your own Siamese or Siamese mix.
5. Get Your Siamese Merch
There are lots of cool options online to show some Siamese love. Whether it’s a Seal Point mug or a Siamese plush, think about looking for small businesses or artisans whose work you can support.

Need a Reason to Celebrate? Thank Jace!
So now that you’ve got the holiday on your calendar, you might be wondering where it came from. Well, you have Jace Shoemaker-Galloway to thank. Jace, a journalist and “Queen of Holidays”, started celebrating National Siamese Cat Day in 2014 to promote adoption and bring a little joy into others’ lives. Siamese mix cats are often found in shelters, and their striking appearance makes them a great choice to adopt.
If you already have a Siamese in your life, you shouldn’t need any special reason to celebrate them on National Siamese Cat Day. This April 6th, go do something fun!
All About Siamese Cats
- They’ve Got a Distinctive Appearance: Siamese Cats are instantly recognizable because they have a “colorpoint” or “pointed” coat. They have pale bodies with much darker paws, tails, noses, and ears. There are all sorts of colorpoint coat colors, like seal point (black shading into tan), blue point (gray), and flame point (orange). Siamese cats also always have bright blue eyes.
- And They’re Born White: Siamese cats actually have partial albinism, where their color only appears in the cooler parts of their body. But when Siamese kittens are first born, they’re light all over! Their color develops over the first few months of life.
- They’ve Got Ancient Roots: Siamese cats were first bred in the Kingdom of Siam, modern-day Thailand. They were special symbols of the royal family and known for their kinked tails and crossed eyes—traits that have mostly been bred out of modern Siamese cats.
- And They Made a Splash: Siamese cats first came to the US in 1878, when a Thai diplomat gave one to the First Lady, Lucy Hayes. A few years later, the first Siamese cats in Britain were shown in the Crystal Palace.
- They’re Loved by All: Today, Siamese cats are one of the most popular breeds, and even more people have mixed-breed cats with Siamese coloring and ancestry. One reason they’re so beloved is because of their great personality—Siamese cats are known for being athletic and social. They love to chatter to their owners, and some even enjoy hiking and adventuring on a leash.
