From grabbing your dog’s collar and leash to packing their water bowl and treats, you have a lot to remember when you go out with your pup. But one pet essential you might not think to grab is paw balm. Even though your dog’s paws are made to endure the elements, they’re also one of the most sensitive areas of your dog’s body, so it’s super important that they’re well taken care of.

While there are a lot of paw balms on the market, Pure and Natural Pet’s Paw Rescue stands out for its organic ingredients and healing properties.

Pure and Natural Pet is a leader in organic grooming and health and wellness products for pets, and their paw balm is specially formulated to protect your pup’s paws and nose from harsh environments. The balm is only made with natural ingredients, and it comes in a mess-free container for when you’re on the go. Our Experience

Pure and Natural Pet Paw Rescue Review - putting balm on Micah's paw

My dog, Micah, loves going on outdoor adventures. Whether it’s a daily walk around the block or a hike in the mountains, he’s always up for going outside. But if there’s one thing he loves more than getting out of the house, it’s being off-leash. He’s a go hard or go home kind of dog when it comes to exploring, and more often than not, he ventures off the trail.

Even though Micah has the time of his life climbing over rocks, walking into bushes, and splashing through every puddle he can find, his paws can take a beating. As a result, one product I always have on hand is paw balm. I’ve tried out a lot of paw balms over the years and love Pure and Natural Pet’s Paw Rescue for its natural ingredients and easy application.

I’m super careful about the products I use on Micah, so I was impressed to see the balm is free from chemicals and fragrances and only made with 100% natural ingredients that are certified organic. Ingredient statements are always the first thing I check in a product, so when I saw the clean, pet-safe ingredients, this was an immediate yes from me.

The other thing I love about this paw balm is the packaging. I’ve used many balms that were packaged in chapstick-sized tubes or small tins, which made application tedious and messy. This is the first paw balm I’ve used that’s super easy to apply. The tube is large enough to apply to Micah’s entire paw in a few seconds, and my hands stay clean the entire time–huge plus!

While I like massaging the ointment between his paw pads before leaving the house, the large tube makes application easy and mess-free when I’m on a walk and don’t have wipes readily available to clean my hands. It also makes it super quick for Micah, who isn’t always keen on having his paws touched.

Best of all, it works! This stuff is so moisturizing and soothing, it works wonders on Micah’s dry paws. I’ve been using it daily to hydrate Micah’s paw pads (and nose), and this is the first thing I’ll grab when we’re headed out the door for a walk. I love how smooth the balm is, and the silky texture feels amazing when I massage it into his paws. There’s a visible difference in his paws before and after I apply the ointment, and his paws feel nourished now that I’ve used the balm for a few days.

I love the smell too! Some paw balms have really strong scents that can be a little off-putting, but Paw Rescue has a mild rosemary scent that’s actually really nice. The balm is a little greasy, which is something to keep in mind (especially if your dog is allowed on the furniture), but that’s to be expected given the moisturizing properties.

Easy to Use

Nothing is worse than being on a walk and having to apply ointment to your dog’s dirty paws. The great thing about Paw Rescue is that it’s easy to use and it keeps your hands clean. Simply unscrew the cap and apply the balm to calloused, rough, or hardened pads, paws, and noses. If needed, you can massage the ointment into their paw pads and between their toes to soften and heal. Even if your dog’s nose and paws aren’t rough, you can use the balm preventatively to help them stay moisturized.

While it’s best to apply the ointment before going out, the pocket-sized packaging makes it easy to take with you when you’re on the go.

Pure and Natural Pet believes your four-legged friend deserves the best, which is why their Paw Rescue is only made with natural ingredients. The product doesn’t have any chemicals or additives, and the food-grade ingredients mean it’s safe if Fido has a taste. Paw Rescue is made with the following USDA Certified Organic ingredients:
  • Sunflower seed oil

Is the Paw Rescue a Good Value?

When considering the size of the tube and the quality of the ingredients, the paw balm is a great value. It’s priced about mid-range when looking at similar products, but the 100% natural, USDA Certified Organic ingredients set it apart from other brands. Bottom line, this is a high-quality product, and a little bit goes a long way, so you’re getting a good bang for your buck.

How We Tested

When the balm arrived, I opened it and put some on Micah’s nose and paws. I live in a dry climate, and the weather is starting to warm up, so his paws and nose definitely needed a little TLC. I typically apply it before leaving the house as a preventative measure, but still like taking it with me to have on hand.

When I’m at home, I like applying the balm straight out of the tube and then massaging it into Micah’s paws and between his paw pads. But when I’m out walking or on the go, I like my hands to stay clean, so I don’t rub it in. I typically give Micah a bone or lickable treats when I put it on, so he doesn’t lick it off right away. But the balm is made with food-safe ingredients, so even if he does lick a little off, it’s completely fine.
