Before committing to purchasing a Serrade Petit, you'll need to consider a few factors. This is not your typical purebred cat, as they have undetermined breed standards and are not yet recognized as an official breed. In addition, they are expensive to purchase and are not found outside of France. Getting a Serrade Petit will be costly, especially for those outside Europe.

Not much is known about these little beauties, since they are newly discovered, and we are all still learning more and more about them. Due to this, we are still unaware of potential genetic health conditions they may be predisposed to. If you are looking for a breed with a well-known and extensive history, this is not the cat for you.

The cost of a Serrade Petit kitten is quite high. The steep price tag is likely due to the rarity of the breed and the potential that a new cat breed has. Anyone wanting to purchase a Serrade Petit will need to travel to their home country of France, as they are not yet found outside the country. So, for those in the United States, it would take a French vacation or heavy shipping costs to get one of these cute kitties.

Temperament & Intelligence of the Serrade Petit

The Serrade Petit is a social, affectionate cat that will thrive as an indoor companion. They have a laidback nature but also enjoy lots of playtimes and regular enrichment. They are an intelligent breed, so they may get bored easily and require a change-up in routine play.

These cats thrive on attention and will voice their opinion if you are not giving them what they require. Don’t be surprised if you have a little lap cat on your hands. They will not prefer to be left alone for long periods, as they enjoy the companionship of their owners.

Are These Cats Good for Families?

Serrade Petit will make a great family pet. They bond well with their owners and genuinely enjoy their company. They are affectionate and loving and would make a great addition to any family. Serrade Petit tends to interact and play very well with children.

It is always important to be cautious of small children around any pet, though. Injuries can happen when pets are mishandled by young ones who don’t know any better yet. Keeping a watchful eye and taking any needed precautions is important for the health and safety of your children and your pets.

Does This Breed Get Along With Other Pets?

Cats will be cats, and the Serrade Petit is no exception to the rule. They are naturally going to prefer to be the center of attention but can live harmoniously with other pets. It is best to socialize them from an early age to prevent any issues. It can be difficult living in a multiple-cat household with kitties that don’t ever get along.

As for dogs, the Serrade Petit can most definitely learn to live with and be comfortable with dogs. This is less likely the later in life they are introduced to dogs, however. As for smaller pets like birds, rodents, or reptiles, it’s always a good idea to keep them securely enclosed and keep any cat from getting within reach when you have them out for interaction. It is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to pet interactions.

Things to Know When Owning a Serrade Petit

Food & Diet Requirements

All cats are obligate carnivores, meaning that they get all their needed nutrition through meat sources. In addition, wild cats get most of their water content directly from their prey. It is important to choose a high-quality food that is free from any unnecessary fillers, by-products, harmful chemicals, dyes, preservatives, or other additives that are commonly found in lower-quality pet foods.

Most commercial cat foods on the market are crafted to meet your cat’s needs. They should be fed two to three meals per day per the instructions from the cat food company and/or your veterinarian. If you ever have any questions about your cat’s diet or plan to add or subtract anything from it, always consult their vet for guidance.

Exercise

Exercise is important for everyone, including the Serrade Petit. They should have no trouble getting in their exercise and expending a good amount of energy. They would love for you to join them in their fitness quest, offer them some toys, and get in on the playtime yourself.

Try setting aside time for play and interaction, these friendly, playful felines will absolutely thrive if you do. There is no shortage of cat toy options on the market, so you should have no trouble stocking up on a variety of toys to keep them entertained. Cat trees and tunnels are also great investments.

Training

Since these cats are very social, friendly, and playful, they do have the potential to be trainable. Cats will be cats, though, and as you know, they are notorious for being difficult to train. It is recommended that you begin any training starting in kittenhood and remain consistent for the best results. Always use positive reinforcement, as cats do not respond well to harsh training techniques.

Grooming

The Serrade Petit has simple grooming needs. Of course, all cats give us owners a break, since they are so very well-versed in self-grooming. These cats should only require weekly brushings with your typical slicker brush to help remove loose hairs and reduce shedding and/or hairballs.

Checking their ears regularly for dirt, debris, or those dreaded ear mites is highly recommended. When the ears begin looking dirty, you can wipe them clean. If you notice anything unusual about your cat’s ears, it is best to check with your veterinarian.

Since cats can suffer from dental disease, especially in their older years, it is a good idea to keep up with dental health. Their tiny mouths are breeding grounds for bacteria, which can quickly lead to tartar buildup. Discuss the best preventative dental care techniques with your veterinarian.

Health and Conditions

The Serrade Petit is an overall healthy breed of cat that has an average lifespan of 12 to 16 years. Due to this breed’s more recent discovery, not much is yet known about any genetic health issues they face. There are some more common health ailments that domesticated cats can suffer from, so it’s a good idea to be aware of these concerns and how to prevent them.

The best thing you can do for your Serrade Petit is to feed them a well-rounded, high-quality diet and keep up with regular checkups and preventative care to ensure their overall health and well-being.

Minor Conditions

Serious Conditions

Male vs. Female

If you are taking into consideration looks and personality traits, there is no notable difference between male and female Serrade Petit. Unless you are a breeder of these cats, it is highly recommended that you spay or neuter your new cat or kitten as soon as possible. Not only are there many health benefits to having your cat altered, but it also helps prevent unwanted litters that contribute to the overpopulation of domestic cats.
