Vizsla Doberman Mix Breed Puppies

The Vizsla Doberman Mix breed is a relatively new hybrid, but you can learn a lot about it by examining its parents’ traits. Dobermans and Vizslas are both slim, athletic canines, and you can expect a Vizsla Doberman puppy to inherit a working dog persona. Although the parents were bred to work, the Doberman was developed to guard property and people, and the Vizsla was trained as a gundog in Hungary to retrieve game and assist hunters.

The puppy will have a strong prey drive but could be more alert and protective, like a Doberman. Dobermans are expensive dogs that can cost $1,500 to $2,500, and Vizslas typically cost $700 to $1,500. Although a Vizsla Doberman puppy is likely to cost less than a pedigree Doberman or Vizsla, it will be expensive since the mix is uncommon.

Temperament & Intelligence of the Vizsla Doberman Mix

Just like many other hybrid breeds, you must look at the parents of the Vizsla Doberman Mix to see what their temperament and intelligence levels are going to be. The combination of these two breeds is going to create a powerful canine, but the temperament will vary.

Vizslas and Dobermans are incredibly intelligent dogs, and hybrid pups retain the same intelligence. This helps with training, and it’s best to train a Vizsla Doberman when it’s still young. You can expect your Vizsla Doberman Puppy to be energetic and loving yet courageous, alert, and protective since both parents have strong prey drives.

Are These Dogs Good for Families? 👪

This dog is an excellent pet for active families that don’t take extended vacations. They can suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for too long, so make sure you have the time to spend with them to keep them happy. The Vizsla Doberman is not suited for apartment living and needs a large yard to run and burn off energy. Since the Doberman and Vizsla are well-behaved around children, the Vizsla Doberman will likely be gentle and protective around its owner’s children.

Does This Breed Get Along with Other Pets?

If your dog is socialized and trained as a puppy, it should get along fine with other pets. It’s better if the dog is raised with the other pets, but if you introduce a new dog or pet to the family, do so slowly so the animals have time to get used to one another.

Because it has a strong prey drive and one of its parents (the Vizsla) assisted hunters, the Vizsla Doberman is unlikely to tolerate small animals such as gerbils, hamsters, or rabbits. Some may have issues chasing cats, but with thorough training, they can eventually accept them as roommates.

Things to Know When Owning a Vizsla Doberman Mix:

Now that you know a bit about the hybrid Vizsla Doberman Mix, you’ve probably decided to adopt one of your own. We’ll give you a few tips on how to do just that in the following sections.

Food & Diet Requirements

The Vizsla Doberman Mix will get its diet requirement from its parents. You need to ensure that you’re feeding it a well-balanced diet of high-quality, protein-filled food, whether kibble or wet food. Because it’s an active dog, it requires meals with quality protein to fuel its energetic body.

It’s best to feed your dog on a schedule because they tend to become obese if they eat too much. Commercial kibble and wet food that has been approved by the AAFCO is ideal for a Vizsla Doberman. You can start with a puppy formula and switch to an adult diet when the pup is a year old.

Exercise 🐕

A Vizsla Doberman will need at least an hour or more of exercise every day. You can take brisk walks twice a day and spend time playing fetch or other dog sports with your pet. You don’t want the dog to get bored, as they can become destructive and aggressive if they do. Because of its working dog heritage, the Vizsla Doberman must be mentally stimulated to stay healthy and happy. Agility sports and obstacle courses can keep your dog entertained outdoors, but you can also use puzzle games and toys to entertain them inside your home.

Both Vizslas and Dobermans are considered to be high-energy dogs, so jogging, hiking, swimming, and outdoor games are ideal for making sure they get the exercise they need. Every week, a Vizsla Doberman should get 7 to 10 hours of exercise.

Training 🎾

Their intelligence makes them easier to train to some degree, but Vizsla Dobermans are not suitable for first-time pet owners. They can be stubborn at times and need an experienced trainer to subdue their prey drive and handle their boundless energy. Like all dogs, they respond better to positive reinforcement and should never be verbally or physically abused. If you have issues with training, it’s best to employ a professional trainer to assist you.

Grooming ✂️

Grooming is pretty easy with the Vizsla Doberman. The dog doesn’t shed much, as their parents are low to moderate shedders. It is not considered to be hypoallergenic but sheds less than many other breeds. A few days a week of brushing should be enough to keep this dog healthy and happy.

Give the dog baths only when necessary to keep it from drying out its skin. If you feel that you can’t take care of the dog’s grooming needs, you can hire a professional groomer to do it for you, though grooming, training, and exercise are the perfect times to bond with your furry friend.

Health and Conditions 🏥

As with any other hybrid, your Vizsla Doberman Mix could inherit the parents’ health issues. Here are the conditions to be aware of.

Minor Conditions

  • Ear infections
  • Eye issues
  • Allergies

Serious Conditions

Male vs. Female

There are no behavioral differences between the male and females of this breed. The male is a bit heavier and taller than the female, but they have pretty much the same temperament.

3 Little-Known Facts About the Vizsla Doberman Mix

There are very few facts about the Vizsla Doberman Mix, but there are a few interesting ones about the parent breeds.

1. Vizslas Were Almost Extinct

The Vizsla breed nearly became extinct. At one point in the 19th century, there were only around 100 Vizslas. Luckily, that changed, and their numbers increased, which led the way to hybrids like the Vizsla Doberman.

2. Vizslas Are Very Clean

Most dogs could care less if they are clean or not. The Vizsla is actually a very clean dog and only needs moderate grooming.

3. Dobermans Have Been Given a Bad Rap

Much like Pitbulls and Rottweilers, Dobermans are thought to be vicious dogs. If they aren’t raised right, that can be true. However, most Dobermans are gentle, loving, and loyal.

Final Thoughts

As you can see, the Vizsla Doberman Mix takes a lot of its characteristics from its Vizsla and Doberman parents. If you’re looking to adopt one of these mixes, it’s best to have experience training with working breeds to ensure the dog doesn’t take over and run your home.

While they are gentle, loyal, loving, and protective, the Vizsla Doberman needs to be socialized and trained as a puppy to get along with other people, get along with other pets, and listen to your commands. If you think you have what it takes to give one of these majestic dogs a forever home, you won’t find a better companion than the Vizsla Doberman mix.
