Unlike years ago, when there were very few choices in cat litter, cat owners today are spoiled for choice. There are clay-based litters, pellet litters, pine, wheat, and corn litters, and many more. Among the most popular choices are cat litter crystals. This type of cat litter doesn’t create a mini dust storm around the litter box and it does a very good job of masking the unpleasant odors associated with cat pee-pee and doo-doo.

If you want to give this type of cat litter a try, you may become confused when looking for a brand to buy because there are several choices out there. The following cat litter crystals reviews can help acquaint you with the options and hopefully point you in the right direction so you end up buying the right crystals for your kitty cat.

  • The 5 Best Crystal Cat Litters

    1. PetSafe Scoopfree Crystal Cat Litter - Best Overall

    PetSafe Scoopfree Crystal Cat Litter
    • Package size: 9 pounds total
    • Dustiness: 99% dust-free
    • Tracking: Low tracking

PetSafe Scoopfree Premium Unscented Crystals Cat Litter is at the top of our list of reviews because of the value it holds. This is a budget-friendly 2-pack that contains a whopping 9 pounds of litter that will last about 60 days. This litter does a great job of controlling odors and doesn't track like traditional clumping litter due to it being 99% dust-free.

These crystals do a great job of absorbing moisture to keep bad odors in check. The blue silica crystals smell like those little silica gel packages that come with new shoes or clothing. If you use these crystals, the litter box area won’t look like a mini cat crime scene peppered with kitty-cat footprints due to the low tracking qualities of this brand.  We also like this brand because of how easy it is to clean up the crystals by simply tossing them out in your regular trash. However, you cannot flush this litter down the toilet as there’s nothing on the package stating that it’s flushable.

All in all, we think these are the best cat litter crystals available.

    Pros

    • Highly absorbent and odor-controlling
    • Easy to clean
    • Budget-friendly
    • Long-lasting 2-pack with 9 total pounds of litter

    Cons

    • There is no list of actual ingredients on the package
    • Made in China
    • The crystals cannot be flushed down the toilet

    2. Fresh Step Scented Non-Clumping Crystal Cat Litter

Fresh Step Premium Crystals Scented Non-Clumping Crystal Cat Litter
    • Package size: 8 pounds
    • Dustiness:9% dust-free
    • Tracking: Medium tracking

Fresh Step Scented Non-Clumping Crystal Cat Litter is an ultra-lightweight and highly-scented litter that comes with a 30-day odor control guarantee. This 8-pound package of litter should last around one month. The lightweight blue and white crystals feel somewhat soft to the touch, which makes the litter ideal for cats with sensitive paws.

We’ve read many cat litter crystals reviews and have found that this choice from Fresh Step is very well-liked by cat owners due to how well it absorbs both moisture and offensive smells. While these cat litter crystals advertised as being low-tracking, many users say that it does indeed leave tracks around the immediate litter box area. It does, however, do a good job with dustiness overall as it doesn’t produce big clouds of dust when cats walk in it. We didn’t like the fact that the ingredients are not listed on the package.

    Pros

    • Absorbs moisture and offensive odors very well
    • Lightweight
    • Does a good job of controlling dust

    Cons

    • The flowery smell can be unpleasant for some cats and cat owners
    • Not 99.9% dust-free as claimed
    • Chinese brand of cat litter crystals

    3. Ultra Pet Clumping Crystal Cat Litter

Ultra Pet Clumping Crystal Cat Litter
    • Package size: 5 pounds
    • Dustiness: 100% dust-free
    • Tracking: High tracking

This litter by Ultra Pet is made with super absorbent, non-toxic silica gel micro-crystals consisting of minerals, sand, and oxygen. It’s a soft litter that’s paw-friendly and fragrance-free. Even though the package states that this is a 100% dust-free litter, it is high-tracking litter that tends to make a mess. The small pieces of silica gel stick to cats’ paws wherein it gets tracked throughout the home. This means you should be prepared to vacuum regularly to rid your floors of the litter pieces.

This clumping crystal litter is free of added fragrances which is a good thing for cat owners who aren’t fond of overly fragrant cat litters. However, since there is no fragrance to mask the strong odors of cat pee and poop, the litter doesn’t provide any odor protection. Many reviews of this litter state that some cats refuse to use the litter box filled with this litter once it starts smelling bad.

    Pros

    • Soft litter that’s perfect for cats with sensitive paws
    • The litter contains no added fragrances
    • Highly absorbent litter
    • The used litter clumps up well for easy scooping and disposal

    Cons

    • Does not mask odors
    • Some cats may refuse to use it
    • The litter sticks to paws and gets tracked all over the home

    4. FreshMAGIC Round Crystals Crystal Cat Litter

FreshMAGIC Round Style Crystal Cat Litter
    • Package size: Four, 4-pound bags containing a total of 16 pounds of litter
    • Dustiness: Low dust
    • Tracking: Medium to high tracking

The next cat litter we’d like to tell you about is called FreshMAGIC Round Crystals. This litter is well-liked by cat owners for its good odor-control ability. This litter is compatible with scoop-free litter and self-cleaning litter boxes and it offers superior odor control as each crystal contains millions of microscopic pores.

The round shape of these crystals makes the litter gentle on cats’ paws, which is great for kittens and indoor cats. However, the tiny round balls tend to leave a mess as they get tracked around the home. Many reviews of this crystal litter consist of complaints about finding tiny balls rolling around the floor and getting caught in corners and other tight places.

We like the fact that this litter comes in four packages containing a total of 16 pounds of litter. This means you won’t have to purchase this litter repeatedly once you buy this 4-pack of cat litter crystals.

    Pros

    • Good odor control
    • Easy on cat paws
    • The litter does not produce much dust
    • Large package size that will last a few months
    • US-based company with a good reputation

    Cons

    • Litter tends to get tracked around the home
    • Not all cats like the small balls that stick to paws and fur
    • No full list of actual ingredients on the package

    5. Ultra Pet Micro Crystals Crystal Cat Litter

Ultra Pearls Micro Unscented Non-Clumping Crystal Cat Litter
    • Package size: 5 pounds
    • Dustiness: Medium dust
    • Tracking: Medium tracking

Ultra Pet Micro Crystals is an unscented, non-clumping cat litter that comes in a 5-pound package. The relatively small package size will last about one month if you have one cat. This means you’ll either have to buy multiple packages to keep yourself stocked up or shop more often for cat litter.

Made with sand-like silica gel crystals, Micro Crystals litter is designed to absorb urine instantly and leave the litter dry to the touch, which helps provide maximum odor control. Most of the reviews we read about this litter confirm that it does work very well at controlling the foul odors associated with cat waste.

The company making this litter is so confident in its odor control ability that it has “No 1 in Odor Control” printed on the front of the package. This brand of cat litter crystals is budget-friendly as it costs less than other leading brands.

    Pros

    • The litter does a great job of controlling foul odors
    • Fast-absorbing
    • No offensive smell
    • Low cost compared to other brands

    Cons

    • No full list of actual ingredients on the package
    • The litter produces dust
    • The litter tends to get tracked out of the box and throughout the house
    • Litter sticks to paws and fur

    In Conclusion

We hope you learned a bit about cat litter crystals so you can find a brand that’s right for you. We give top grades to PetSafe Scoop-Free Premium Unscented Crystals Litter because it offers the most benefits to both cats and their owners. Our second and third picks were Fresh Step Scented Non-Clumping Crystal Cat Litter and Ultra Pet Clumping Crystal Cat Litter. We rated these two brands highly because they are both relatively dust-free and super absorbent.

Take some time and go over the reviews and read the pros and cons again. This way, you’ll be able to more easily choose the best cat litter crystals that will make both you and your feline friend happy!
