We give the SiiPet LitterLens a rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars.
Have you ever wanted to be inside your cat’s litterbox? Well, no, neither have I. BUT, have you ever found yourself wondering whether or not your cat’s litterbox habits are normal? How often are they visiting? Are they lingering longer than normal? Are they leaving behind a healthy stool?
As the proud human servant of five healthy and robust felines, I consider myself fortunate that, so far, I have not yet needed to closely examine the content and consistency of their poop (picture me touching every bit of wood in my vicinity!). As a vet, however, I have, on more than one occasion, been presented with the multi-cat conundrum where one or more of the household felines has been producing an array of unhealthy-looking poops. But in the absence of some sort of fecal fingerprinting technique, it can be almost impossible to accurately identify the culprit or culprits. As you can imagine, this makes diagnosis somewhat difficult, and treatment even more so.
Thanks to the clever team at SiiPet, you can now, quite literally, get a bird’s-eye view of the comings and goings inside your cat’s litterbox, giving you insight into the frequency and consistency of their fecal output, and what it means for your cat’s health.
Monitoring Feline Fecal Output – There’s an App For That
As you’re probably aware, we can glean an awful lot of information from poop. There’s even a song about it. But when that poop is buried, hidden inside a covered box, or even scooped away in secret by a self-cleaning litter box, it can be easy to fall into the trap of “out of sight, out of mind.” And when there are multiple cats involved, our ability to accurately take stock of who is doing what, when, and how often, becomes something of a challenge.
As a vet, one question I always ask is “What is their toileting like?”
The response from even the most devoted of pet parents is often accompanied by a shrug, with details few and far between. On occasion, when a problem is suspected, I am presented with a sad little plastic bag of sticky brown goo mixed with cat litter, which is not as diagnostically helpful as one might think.
What we rarely get to see is the shape, size, color, and texture of a freshly deposited poop, and that is where the LitterLens comes in.
LitterLens by SiiPet: The Smart Cat Litter Box Camera
SiiPet was founded in March 2023 by CEO Brian Fu and Collin Wan (CTO). They wanted to find ways to help decode pet behavior through pioneering AI technology, translating subtle behavioral cues into precise health insights.
Their first product, the PawTracker, launched in April 2025, followed by LitterLens in October 2025.
As a team of experienced cat owners, SiiPet is deeply committed to pet wellness. They developed a litter box companion camera to analyze feline toileting habits, helping owners detect early signs of gastrointestinal and urinary issues.
What’s In The Box?
No complicated set-up or fiddly equipment here. The LitterLens unit feels smooth and sturdy, fitting easily into the palm of your hand. It weighs around 7 ounces (200g) and readily attaches to the side of almost any style of litter box with a flexible mount that allows you to get the best angle for a full view. None of my cats seemed to take any notice of the device.

You’ll need to scan a QR code to download the LitterLens app, which will allow you to pair your device(s) and input information about your cat(s). Then all you need to do is sit back and wait for the magic to happen.
How Does LitterLens Work?
Once you’ve charged and paired your LitterLens camera (or cameras) to your phone and positioned it inside the litterbox, the motion-activated cameras are set to record every time a cat visits the latrine. The app will ask you to identify each cat, sometimes needing more than one visit to confirm. I did find that I had to correct it a few times when it mixed up my tabby, Cyril, with Zazzles the tortoiseshell, but this was easily rectified.
Every visit is recorded, switching to night mode after dark to avoid distracting any shy bladders. Over time, trends in your cat’s normal toileting schedule and visit length are recorded, allowing abnormally long or frequent toilet trips to be detected. With instant alerts to your phone, you have access to an early warning system for potential problems like cystitis, urethral obstruction, constipation, or diarrhea, allowing you to seek treatment before the issue becomes an emergency.
With a premium subscription, the app stores this data for up to 12 months, which can be crucial in recognizing the subtle changes that could be early indicators of chronic conditions like diabetes or chronic kidney disease.
Imagine being asked by your vet if your cat has been urinating more frequently, and instead of guessing, being able to pull up a graph. Trust me, your vet will be cheering!
In addition to monitoring the timing and frequency of toilet trips, the LitterLens, using AI technology far too complicated for my mind to understand, not only identifies poop, but also detects and categorises abnormalities in its shape and color. Images and videos of each bowel movement provide valuable intel for your vet, without the need to transport a smelly and contaminated sample.
And if that’s not enough, I took great delight in forwarding these videos and images to my husband throughout the day, ensuring that he didn’t miss a moment of the action.
We already knew that our Ginger lad, Alex, favors a ‘clean bowl’ as he is always the first to leap into the litter box after I’ve cleaned them. What I didn’t know was that each of his visits involves something of a reconnaissance mission, with a visual assessment and preliminary sifting session before committing to entry. This was not only entertaining, but it also really demonstrated how important litter box hygiene is to our cats.
Who Needs LitterLens?
When I was first asked to try out the LitterLens, I thought that it was a cute idea that I probably wouldn’t get a huge amount of value from. Now, I have signed up for the Premium subscription. With five cats between the ages of 6 and 12 years, being able to monitor the form and frequency of each individual cat’s urine and feces takes the guesswork out of trying to identify health problems from the evidence in the tray alone.
The LitterLens is not just for cats with pre-existing problems. Any feline household, whether it is made up of one or a dozen cats, would benefit from installing one of these observant little owls. Being alerted to toileting issues before they progress, and getting a headstart on the detection of chronic illness, can be an absolute game-changer; something that is made infinitely easier with the observations and analysis provided by the LitterLens.
How Much Does LitterLens Cost?
The LitterLens unit retails through the SiiPet website for around $99.00, although at the time of writing, they are offering significant discounts of 29% off one unit, 35% off two units, and 43% off three units, with free US shipping and a 1 year replacement warranty.
Your new device comes with a Free 1-month Premium Subscription, allowing you to explore all the features of the app.
The great thing is that if you’re working with a tighter budget, you can still take advantage of many of the LitterLens features; you’ll just need to save and store the data yourself, as videos are only stored for 3 days. However, if you’re looking to take full advantage of the technology, including 30-day video storage, abnormal stool analysis, trends, and alerts, for $5.99/month, the Basic Subscription will store abnormal events for 90 days, while the $9.99 Premium Subscription will keep hold of this information for a whole year. Please note that the listed prices are current at the time of writing this article.
At the moment, you’ll need to sign up for a separate subscription for each device, but LitterLens has announced that it will soon be rolling out a family plan, allowing an unlimited number of devices to be connected for $14.99 per month.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What Sort of Abnormalities Are Detected?
The app flags stool events that look unusual based on two categories:
- Shape: hard pellets, pudding-like/soft, watery/diarrhea.
- Color: black/tarry, bright red, gray, green, orange-yellow.
When an anomaly is detected, it appears on the Event Timeline for easy review (with photo/time).
Can LitterLens Diagnose Illness?
No. The LitterLens app will only detect and flag abnormalities in the appearance and toileting patterns. It is a tool that can help you and your vet identify problems earlier than would usually be possible.
Do I Need A Subscription?
No. Without a subscription, you can access almost all health monitoring features, excluding anomaly alerts and long-term video storage.
Do I Need A Device in Each Litter Box?
For the best results, if you have multiple litter boxes, you should place a device in each one. Fortunately, SiiPet offers discounts on multiple devices.
Do You Need A Separate Subscription for Each Device?
At present (Feb 2026), you will need a separate subscription for each device if you want to store information longer than 3 days, but there is a family plan coming soon that will allow you to have all devices under a single plan.
You can also check out the FAQ section on the SiiPet website for more information.
Final Thoughts
When I first heard about the LitterLens, I thought it sounded like a clever gimmick that would have little impact on how I manage the health and well-being of my clowder. Now, having used the app for almost a month, I wouldn’t be without it. Knowing that I will be alerted to changes in the feces of my feline family, as well as any deviations from their usual toileting habits, has given me such peace of mind. Although there is little we can do to stop the march of time and aging, having an early warning system that allows us to get ahead of acute or chronic health issues could add years to your cat’s lifespan. Given how impressive the technology is already, I can’t wait to see what comes next from SiiPet.
